Rocktoberfest is Gearing Up for Another Celebration in St. Joseph

Blending German heritage, rock music, and community into a one-day festival is no easy task, but it is one that the Rocktoberfest Committee in St. Joseph has been hard at work on all year long.

Rocktoberfest is not only a showing of the deep German heritage of Central Minnesota but also a way for the community to come together as a fundraiser. Held in the heart of St. Joseph, Rocktoberfest features a massive heated tent to ensure rain, wind or cold won’t put an end to the party, we all know how unpredictable Minnesota weather can be in the fall.

The event features a variety of German and Minnesota brews and delicious German food. You can challenge yourself with the always entertaining stein-holding contests, some axe throwing, or just relax listening to the musical talents of the Bavarian Musikmeisters and Rhino.

An event like this doesn’t just happen overnight. One of the organizers, Randy Schmitz, joined me on The Small Town Tourist Podcast to talk about what goes into the event. He said the first ever event was put together in just a few months, and though it all came together, the group now starts the planning process in January and meets regularly throughout the year to make sure they have a plan in place and are ready to rock once the last week of September rolls around.

Randy and I dive deeper into this rockin’ tradition in St. Joseph on this week’s episode of The Small Town Tourist Podcast. Check it out below, and get a ticket for Rocktoberfest online.
