Upsala is the story book definition of a “small town”. A couple churches, city hall, a convenience store, and the K-12 school all share the same street. Smack dab in the middle of all of it is Cythina’s Kitchen & Cocktails.
Cythina’s Kitchen & Cocktails is the newest addition to the town, taking over a sports bar that closed up shop earlier in the year. Defining themselves as a “new american” restaurant on their Facebook page, their menu has a little bit of everything to offer.
My boyfriend Cory and I met my parents there for dinner last week. Upsala just so happens to be the halfway point between our homes and Cynthia’s seemed like the perfect meeting place. We were right.
Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly waitress that talked to us like we had known each other for years. We cracked open the menus and couldn’t believe the selection before our eyes. The four of us had the same thought, we weren’t expecting this kind of selection in Upsala.
Appetizers, plated pasta dinners, wraps, wing specials, and the crown jewel: half pound specialty burgers.
I went in for their riff on a “cowboy burger”. A half pound burger topped with melted cheese, crispy fried onion straws, and a chipotle sauce that I got on the side as well for dipping my perfectly battered fries into. It was the best burger I have had in A LONG TIME. And I eat a lot of burgers.
The best part was that the prices were extremely fair. Burgers were all priced around $10, which is a steal for the meal. The rest of the menu was also extremely affordable. Great prices, great flavors, great staff, great atmosphere. No complaints on my end what so ever.
With summer and frequent trips to that neck of the woods on the horizon, I hear Cynthia’s patio calling my name. And maybe another burger or two.
