Friday, April 21st marked the seventh anniversary of the death of the legendary musician, Prince. Just ask any Minnesotan even remotely interested in music and they will be able to tell you where they were when they heard the news.
I just so happened to be getting matching butt tattoos with my coworker. Weird, I know, but we came up with the idea to get radio emoji’s tattooed on our butt cheeks on-air, and we are women who keep our word so we did it. The appointment was booked for the early afternoon of April 21st. As we were in the chair getting our new ink, our emails started to blow up with news that Prince had been found unresponsive in his home in Chanhassen, Minnesota. A short hour’s drive from where we were.
Though our radio emoji tattoos weren’t in honor of the musical Minnesotan, the memory of getting them is permanently tied to his life.
On the anniversary of Prince’s passing, my husband Cory, our friend Lance, and I went out for ice cream. We hit up Jupiter Moon Ice Cream in St. Cloud, and on their menu was a Raspberry Beret Sorbet. With it being the date it was, I knew I had to get a scoop of it in a waffle cone, and I’m so glad I did. Not just to honor The Purple One, but also because it was delicious.
Jupiter Moon Ice Cream handcrafts all its ice cream in-house in small batches, using as many locally sourced and sustainable ingredients as possible. They even make their own waffle cones, which you can smell the instant you walk in the door. The attention to detail shines through in all of their rotating flavors. The Raspberry Beret Sorbet was blended to perfection, with just the right amount of air incorporated to make it light and fluffy, but still so full of flavor.
Jupiter Moon is also great about making dairy-free ice cream options, which as a human with a dairy allergy, I deeply appreciate. It is a place I know I can go get a sweet treat whenever I want to, and have more than one option.
I’m glad we stopped in for a cone on the 21st of April. Jupiter Moon is a place that prides itself in spreading joy and happiness Jupiter Moon is a space for joy and celebration. A place where everybody is welcome, where love always overcomes hate. Prince may be gone but his memory and music live on, even through ice cream. I think he would be happy to know that a place like that is celebrating his legacy.
